Pain of Discipline or Pain of Regret?

We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret – Jim Rohn

One kind of pain results from exerting more effort, and another, very distinct kind of suffering
results from not exerting enough time and energy. One must understand the difference between the sorrow of regret and the pain of discipline.

Regret is a totally pointless feeling. You waste time lamenting what you weren’t able to do or acquire. Regret won’t make a difference in the outcome.
Why waste your efforts on the weight and suffering of regret when it’s already decided?

Pain is delivered through discipline, but for a reason. You force yourself to perform tasks that you’d prefer to avoid. You choose to go for a run or the gym even
if you’d prefer stay in bed. You know you’ll regret it later, so you say “no” to the second serving of pasta or the slice of three-layer chocolate cake.
So, you resist the desire that can lead there in order to prevent squandering that wasted emotion of regret.

Would you rather have instant gratification and regret your actions? or would you prefer the make small daily efforts and reap the rewards?
